| Description | Avanti Strollers Repair Program by Perego NEWS from CPSC U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Office of Information and Public Affairs Washington, DC 20207 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 31, 1988 Release # 88-033 Perego Offers Repair for Avanti Strollers Washington, D.C. -- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Peg Perego U.S.A., Inc., Fort Wayne, Indiana, announces a voluntary consumer repair program for its "Avanti" model stroller. In at least 13 reported instances an infant seated in the stroller has put his mouth over a metal wire guide that runs parallel to the stroller's arm rest. The child's chin has been caught in the one-inch space between the wire guide and the arm rest, resulting in lacerations to the mouth, and in some cases, loosening of teeth or loss of teeth. The Perego "Avanti" stroller sold for approximately $99 nationwide. 11,344 units were distributed by the firm between January 1, 1986 and December 15, 1986. Peg Perego U.S.A., Inc. will provide a free repair kit that will close the gap where children's chins have been caught.
