About Recall Register
Recall Register places every US recall record on one register: 26,357 NHTSA vehicle recall campaigns and 1,125,834 consumer complaints arranged by make, model and model year; 10,002 Consumer Product Safety Commission recalls arranged by brand, hazard and category; and 27,613 FDA food, drug and device enforcement events arranged by recalling firm. Each record is placed beside its model line, make, firm and month so a figure can be read in context rather than in isolation.
What it is for
Owners checking a vehicle or product, parents, lemon-law and product-liability professionals and journalists use the same agency files. The agencies present one record at a time; this site adds the year-by-year tables, the complaint rates per 1,000, the firm histories, the monthly registers and the plain explanations of how each agency's process works.
What it leaves out
- People. Where an agency names an individual as a recalling firm, importer or manufacturer, the name is withheld and no page is built for it. Only organisations are entities.
- Complaint narratives. NHTSA complaint text is never republished; the site counts complaints and the components they name.
- Opinion. The site does not rank makes against each other, does not call any product or vehicle by a judgement word, and does not say what anyone should buy. Recall text, hazard statements and remedies are the agencies' own words, in quotation marks, with a link to the record.
Funding
The site is free and funded by advertising that is clearly labelled. Advertisers have no influence over which records appear or how they are presented. Sponsor placements, when present, are marked "Sponsored".
Updates and corrections
The register is rebuilt daily from the current agency files. If a figure here differs from the agency record, the agency record is authoritative; see corrections and the methodology for how the two can differ. Contact: contact page.
