How to read a CPSC recall notice
CPSC is the US Consumer Product Safety Commission. It publishes a recall notice for each recall of a consumer product, for example a crib, a stroller, a heater or a toy. This register has 10,027 of these notices, from 1973.
This guide explains the parts of a notice and shows where each part is on a product page.
The title
The title of a notice names the firm, the product and the hazard in one line. On this register the title of the CPSC notice is the title of the product page.

Whose words are in a notice
CPSC publishes the notice. The hazard, the remedy and the incident text on this register are the words of that notice. The register does not change them and does not make a summary of them.

What the register adds
- Hazard names. The register puts each recall under short hazard names, for example Fire or Fall. For a record from about 2010, the name is the hazard type of CPSC. For an older record, the register reads the hazard words in the hazard text.
- The firm page. A firm with 3 or more recalls has a page that lists them.
- Context. A product page shows the median number of units of the CPSC recalls of the same year.
The sentence at the end of each notice
Each CPSC notice ends with a section about CPSC. It has this sentence about recalled products.
Federal law prohibits any person from selling products subject to a Commission ordered recall or a voluntary recall undertaken in consultation with the CPSC.
